Cloud to mature further in 2013

The rapidly evolving physical, digital and virtual technological landscape is rapidly increasing the complexity associated with adopting new services. This is especially true in regard to cloud computing, which is maturing and developing at a pace much faster than the rest of the industry.

In 2013, several cloud transformations are predicted to take place. A new report by ScienceLogic highlighted some of these occurrences, noting that the cloud's maturity will continue to take shape next year. As more organizations move critical applications to the cloud, which will drive the market forward, consumer clouds will begin to take shape.

A separate report by Gartner highlighted this phenomenon, noting that consumers will store more than a third of their digital content in cloud environments by 2016.

"Historically, consumers have generally stored content on their PCs, but as we enter the post-PC era, consumers are using multiple connected devices, the majority of which are equipped with cameras," said Shalini Verma, principal research analyst at Gartner. "This is leading to a massive increase in new user-generated content that requires storage."

ScienceLogic also said that cybersecurity will continue to play an important role in the transformation of the digital landscape. As decision-makers throughout the private sector are increasingly burdened with the challenges of managing highly confidential digital information, they will turn to advanced storage solutions capable of keeping mission-critical data safe.

These ongoing demands for sophisticated archiving services will drive the adoption of cloud storage services, which reduce some of the difficulty associated with maintaining sensitive information.

Invariably, cloud computing will become increasingly important in the lives of consumers and business executives in 2013. As the technology is forecast to continue maturing in the coming years, this trend will likely carry on through and beyond next year.
